How a multi-split system works

A multi-split system connects two or more indoor units to one compatible outdoor unit. Each indoor unit can be controlled separately, allowing different occupied rooms to be conditioned without filling the outside of the building with equipment.

Wall-mounted units are common, but other compatible indoor-unit styles may be considered where the building and system design allow.

Where multi-splits make sense

Multi-splits are often considered for bedrooms, home offices, living spaces and small commercial zones where outdoor space or appearance is important. They can also be useful where several pipe routes can be brought back to one accessible outdoor position.

They are not automatically the best answer for every property. Climetech compares system capacity, pipe distances, simultaneous demand, drainage, access and future serviceability before recommending a layout.

Sizing each room and the outdoor unit

Each room is measured and assessed separately. The outdoor unit is then selected around the connected indoor capacities and the expected simultaneous load, rather than simply adding equipment without checking the manufacturer’s combination rules.

The written quotation sets out the indoor and outdoor equipment, pipework approach, controls, electrical requirements and agreed scope.

A complete installation

Installation includes secure equipment mounting, insulated refrigerant pipework, condensate drainage, pressure testing, evacuation and commissioning. Climetech then explains the controls and ongoing maintenance requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Can every room have a different temperature?

Each indoor unit has its own controller and set temperature. Compatible units on the same outdoor system must normally operate in the same overall mode, heating or cooling.

Is a multi-split always cheaper than separate systems?

Not always. Cost depends on capacity, pipe routes, access and equipment combinations. The survey compares the practical options for the property.

How many indoor units can connect to one outdoor unit?

It depends on the selected manufacturer and model. Climetech chooses a compatible combination after calculating the requirements of every room.
